Thy Will Be Done
"Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven." These are the words that Jesus uses when teaching us how to pray. There is a Holy Will that God has, and we are all called to submit to this Will. We each have things that we desire and want in our lives, but oftentimes these things do not align with what God wants for us. This second drop for Agape Project will focus on two examples of perfectly submitting to God's Will: our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. During the Agony in the Garden, Jesus says, "My Father, if it is not possible that this cup pass without my drinking it, your will be done!" This is our Lord resolving to do the Will of the Father despite knowing the immense suffering that He will go through, but for our sake and our salvation He did it anyway. Another beautiful example of surrendering to God's Will is Our Lady. At the Annunciation, she says to the Angel Gabriel, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." The Blessed Virgin Mary says "yes" to God's call in this moment. While there are many examples in Sacred Scripture, and many examples when considering the extensive list of Saints, these two examples, Our Lord and Our Lady, are two perfect examples of forgoing one's earthly will, for the Will of the Lord.
